NCS Services

Whether this is your first or fifth baby, as a newborn care specialist, Nikki can support your family during this transitional phase. This service is ideal for families looking to maximize their rest and recovery, guided by an expert who supports their goals and the parent-child bond. To build trust, Nikki learns about the family and their goals and discusses how she can support them. She believes every member of the family is important and deserves not just to be acknowledged, but valued and included - even young children and pets! Through support, encouragement, education, and nurturing care, Nikki helps families achieve a more positive 4th-trimester experience. By the end of her time with a family, her goal is to be wanted but no longer needed.

  • All newborn care includes attending to their basic needs such as changing, bottle feeding/bringing to the nursing parent, and soothing/comforting. Additional responsibilities include washing baby laundry, washing and sanitizing bottles/pump parts, and preparing bottles for the day as appropriate. She can also help with nursing support and formula guidance. Further duties include maintaining a well-stocked and organized nursery as appropriate. She keeps a detailed log so you know exactly how their shift has gone and what baby’s needs will be.

She provides developmentally appropriate, nurturing care through respectful infant care practices. Through routines, healthy sleep habits, and developmentally-appropriate support, she encourages natural sleep development and progression.

Parent education is included as appropriate and convenient throughout her shift. At the beginning of her shifts or in the morning before leaving, she sets aside time to answer any questions and teach parents any newborn care practices such as paced-bottle feeding, safe swaddling, bathing, formula preparation, appropriate breastmilk storage and handling, gas relief exercises and even playtime ideas!

Every aspect of care is intended to support the parents, encourage their abilities, nurture their baby, and help them achieve their goals. Clients can expect a welcome packet to refer to for routine and care guidance, plus additional resources for postpartum mental health and informational topics.

Parent Education

One of Nikki’s favorite parts of being an NCS is helping parents understand their babies and their potential! Her goal is to help parents feel confident in their parenting abilities. Through parent education classes before or after baby arrives, parents can learn all about newborn care, health, development, and practices. All questions are valid - from paced-bottle feeding, safe swaddling, bathing, formula preparation, appropriate breastmilk storage and handling, typical vs. atypical newborn behaviors, poop color & consistency, nursery suggestions, to gas relief exercises and even playtime ideas. Additional resources are provided for reference.

    • In-home classes begin at $200 for 1-2 hours of instruction.

    • Group instruction classes may be available at a discounted rate for each family included.
